About Me

My name is elynn bernstein. I am a feltmaker, fiber artist, and painter. I create "art to wear."

MY JOURNEY

I have always loved making art, as far back as I can remember. When I was five years old, my family went on vacation to the Catskill mountains, in upstate New York. My parents thought I would enjoy taking a painting class and signed me up. Well, it was love at first smell and I was hooked. I went every day while we were there and when I got home I started taking lessons. I would spend hours in my basement trying to copy the paintings of Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Matisee.

I went on to major in art at Syracuse University and did post-grad study in painting in several different venues. After working in oils for 25 years, having had enjoyed many shows and a gallery affiliation, I found it was time for some life revisions, and as it turned out, a change in medium as well.

I moved away from the cities I knew to start on a life-long dream -- a hobby farm. I moved to the mountains of North Carolina with my new partner and went from painting in oils to "painting" in fiber. Sheep were part of my new family -- and then my medium. The outcome is felted art to wear!
